Mr. Shaw was a gentleman who would travel the area offering to assist in opening a business in exchange for a portion of the profits. Lawrence Hayes would be one of the men to accept his offer and together they opened the original Shaw Furniture in downtown Lenoir. The store did quite well, and Lawrence eventually saved enough to purchase Mr. Shaws half of the business.

Lawrence had a son, Bruce Hayes, who would be raised in the store and eventually take over in Lawrences later years. Following in his fathers’ footsteps Bruce raised his own son, Marc Hayes, at Shaw Furniture, eventually one day planning to hand the business down to the next generation. In his Early 20s Marc began working for his father around the store learning from his family’s past generations.

In 2007 Shaws left downtown Lenoir and moved to our current location on 321 across from Lowes Hardware. Over time Marc began to take over portions of the  business from his father and eventually inherited Shaw Furniture in its entirety. Marc is still the owner of Shaws and is one of the friendly faces that will greet you when you walk in our doors.
